Ink on paper

Asemic Letters, 2020

Ink, graphite, marker, colored pencil on various papers

In April 2020, in the midst of the pandemic, social and political unrest, and in response to ongoing social isolation, I began writing to friends, family, acquaintances and strangers using illegible scripts. This ongoing practice has been a means of communicating with others in a direct but non-verbal way, through the postal system. The abstract scripts are evolving manifestations of internal energies, uncertain signs, and repetitive gestures . They offer connection by relating on a physical and sensory level, rather than an intellectual one. They strive to create small spaces of rest, for both author and reader, from the task of meaning making.
